Almost a year after the company faced its worst controversy to date; Samsung is now beyond ready to move on. Because after months and months of waiting, the Korean phone manufacturer has finally launched its S8 and S8 plus handsets in hopes of earning the public’s trust again and move past the disaster that is their Galaxy S7. And as expected, the new phones are nothing short of impressive.
During the Samsung event last March 29, 2017, the company has unveiled its two newest products – the S8 and S8 plus handsets. These two phones are identical looking, but the most distinct difference is that the S8 comes with a 5.8 AMOLED curved screen while the S8 plus’s curved display is at 6.2 inches. It can be remembered that a few months ago, VentureBeats’s Evan Blass has leaked a set of specifications about the Galaxy S8 handsets. At the recent Samsung event, the company also decided to release an official list of specifications for their S8 series.
According to the list provided by Samsung, there are a lot of similarities on the features of the two phones. They both have bezel designs with no physical home button, a 4GB RAM and 64 GB ROM (expandable up to 256GB with the use of a memory card), Dual 12 MP rear camera with Panoramic capabilities and 8MP wide-capture front camera, video recording with 4K resolution, Android 7.0 Nougat software and Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor or Samsung Exynos 8895 (depending upon the region). Both handsets are also water resistant. Some of the cooler features present on both phones are iris scanner, fingerprint sensor, Gyro Sensor, Bixby (Samsung’s answer to Apple’s Sir and Amazon’s Alexa) and Geomargentic sensor.
Aside from the screen size, the other most notable difference between the two is their battery capacity. The S8 comes with 3000mah battery while the S8 plus has 3500mah battery. Samsung’s new handsets will be available for worldwide release this coming April 21, 2017.
